FEATURED TRAIL - GROOM CREEK
Feldmire - 396 Loop    -   Skill level:  Intermediate   Exertion level:  Moderate to difficult
Parking:  White Spar Campground

There's a long story about Mr. Feldmire, his gravel pit and a trail next to that pit.  What does it matter?  The trail is awesome and a surprising number of people know about this little stretch of track that appears on few maps, if any.

The best way to complete this loop is from White Spar Campground.  Ride up 396 towards the upper Goldwater Lake.  You will cross two distinct service roads and across one single track trail.  Keep looking for a fairly well defined trail leading off to your left.  Follow that trail for a mile until you hit the small paved road that leads down to the lake.  Cross the road, and about 30 feet up the road look for the continuation of the single track on the other side of the road.  This little section takes you to the closed city gate.  Slip around the wire gate and UP the service road about 100ft.  On your right is a faint bit of singletrack that leads you strait into Feldmire.  Feldmire will dump you out on SR 61.  Take a left on 61.  Ride for a few hundred yards until you get to the closed gate at Haisley neighborhood.  Look for a single track trail that shoots uphill along a fence line.  That takes you back to the campground.

Have fun!!

This is a great place to escape the sun.  Most of this route is in the shade of tall pines.

The trail elves have been working hard on the trail between 396 and Feldmire.

In theory, you could do this in reverse.  It wouldn't be bad.  Feldmire would have some steep pitches to climb, but nothing serious.  The small, unmarked connector can be hard to find for some.  There are a couple false trails near the lake, but once you find the connector, you'll know it.
